The United States Peace Corps Togo is seeking an individual for the position of Medical Officer

STATUS:
 40 (forty) hours per week.

BACKGROUND

The United States Peace Corps seeks a Medical Doctor (MD) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) to serve as a contracted Peace Corps Medical Officer (PCMO) based in Lome, Togo. The PCMO will provide health care to U.S. Peace Corps Volunteers in Togo and will work under the supervision of the Peace Corps Country Director in Togo and the Peace Corps Office of Medical Services in Washington DC.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Routine primary health care to Peace Corps Trainees and Volunteers including treatment of common illnesses and injuries in accordance with Peace Corps medical guidelines; prescribe pharmacologic agents and non-pharmacologic therapies that comply with the Medical Technical Guidelines. Serve as a medical prescriber for RNs: provide individual short-term counseling on disease prevention, adjustment issues, stress management and cross-cultural problems: response for emergency medical situations: serve as a member of Senior Peace Corps staff in Togo; conduct trainings to Volunteers on health related issues: conduct site visits to Peace Corps Volunteers throughout Togo: collaborate with administration and budget office on procurement of medical supplies and management of medical office budget; supervise the inventory of medical supplies and equipment: alternate 24 hour on- call duty with the other PCMO ; etc.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS 

Education: 

-Graduate of accredited school; MDs must be a graduate of a school listed in this link: Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research: https://search.wdoms.org/ ;
-Current license to practice.

Experience: 

-Relevant clinical experience in primary care: experience in managing mental health issues including counseling of patients; experience in training design and presentation of health related material: program management and administrative experience.

Language:  

-Ability to communicate effectively (oral and written) in English (Level IV) is required;
-Ability to communicate in oral/written French (Level II or higher) is preferred;
-Computer Use: working knowledge of standard Microsoft Office programs (Word. Excel, etc.)

Other: 

-Must be able to obtain a visa for the USA.

complete this request for privileges depending on their professional qualifications. All these forms are available on the Peace Corps website.

-Professional positions held, identifying duties, responsibilities, dates of employment and reason for leaving;
-Education and training, identifying universities attended, dates of attendance, degrees and diplomas;
-An accounting for periods of unemployment longer than three months;
-Academic diplomas: professional licenses: certificates of all post graduate training, intern- ships, residencies, fellowships: professional certification if Nurse Practitioner, registrations.

4. Three professional medical references, with at least two being from medical colleagues who have directly observed the applicant in a clinical setting. (One must also be from the current or more recent employer.)
