The government announced on Thursday the granting of a third mobile license. Two companies are sharing currently the mobile phone market: Togo Cellulaire (public) and Moov (of the Etisalat Group).
In a statement issued during the council of ministers, the telecommunications sector is lagging behind in some areas with a mobile invasion rate estimated at 54% which is below the regional average set at 75%.
The competitive dynamic is likely to promote the development of the sector to stimulate economic growth, accelerate the modernization of the state especially in the social priority sectors such as education and training, health and culture.
The new telephone company will offer 3G and 4G technologies allowing fast internet access.
A bid for tender will be launched in the coming months.
